Inferences

It seems to me that the lone soldier symbolizes the communist, government rule all system. And the stadium being all lit up in the back shows how great and technologically advanced they are. However, it being nighttime in the picture and the only light being from the stadium, I get this feeling that the photographer is also showing us, in a subtle way, that China is in a dark time right now. With all the riots that have taken place during the building of the stadium and deaths from these riots, one could see why the times would not look very good right now. In fact, just like the picture, the only things that look good over in China are the soldiers' uniforms and the stadium. The stadium being lit up with red, like their flag, just puts a stamp on the whole picture, a stamp that says, "MADE IN CHINA."
