No place like my home.
I come from a small county. Although, it is growing slowly but surely. There are two towns in the county, me being from the northernmost city. Dayton, which is in the southernmost part of the county, is the biggest and most populated. There are some sub divisions here or there in the outskirts of the cities but for the most part, everyone's house is on some land that has been passed down or that they have bought by themselves. In David Guterson's, No Place Like Home, he talks about "the master plan of Green Valley's designer and builder." As far as I know, there are not many corporate owned housing in Rhea County. The only thing corporate owned thing in Rhea County would be the Lowes, Wal-Mart, and Lay-Z-Boy factory plant. Well, there is the TVA that controls Watts Bar. So we in Rhea County do have some corporate owned things that contribute majorly to the way we live. However, the people owned businesses are still very much alive in the heart of the two cities. Pharmacies, furniture outlets, restaurants, and beauty boutiques are still there and have survived the recent corporate take over. The new Wal-Mart that has the grocery market attached with it, didn't come in till around four or five years ago and there was very much controversy over this such thing. This is because up until then, local fruit and vegetable sellers could make a living selling their produce in town. Now, though, everyone in town shops at the Wal-Mart. I mean, it does boast having everything you need. I think it important that the people owned businesses keep on the fight against the corporate business world takeover.

Home is where the heart is.
Feelings about my home:
-simple
-relaxing
-loving
-protecting
-comfortable
When I began to think of a way to depict my home, I thought about the phrase, "Home is where the heart is." Do you know it? Well, thinking of this, I drew a picture of a living room with a kitchen and an open door in the background. The drawing is actually a combination of both my homes because my parents are divorced. My heart is in both of these homes so, therefore, I had to draw a little of both. The heart of my home at my father's is in the living room whereas at my mother's, it's the kitchen. All the social activities of my father and mother are located in these two different rooms. I think that when I have a house or home of my very own, all the social activity and the heart of the home will be located in both the kitchen and the living room. The last characteristic of my drawing is the open door. This signifies both of my parents' view of an open door policy meaning our door is always open to anyone and anytime.

Opposite Sex
If I could be the opposite sex for one day there are certain things I would do.
First, I would go shopping because apparently, there is something more enjoyable about this act for women than we as men. I'd spend most of the money in my bank account just so I could complain about not having any money. I might even have a crying spell over this just to see if it's any different in the new body of a woman. Later that night, I might would go out wearing some low cut, cleavage showing dress, just so I could chew any guy out who did not look at my eyes.

Observations:-sign attached to a lamp post
-sign says, "make orange green
-the UT and "make orange" are colored orange while the "green" and the leaf or colored green
-the lamp post that the sign is attached to is off
-it is daylight
The audience is most undoubtedly us as a whole campus. The campus of The University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The purpose is to set an example in ways we can think and act more environmentally friendly, hence the lamp on the post being off during the daytime, and to connect to us on an ethos and pathos level. The sign establishes ethos by using the official symbol of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, "UT", making us infer that the sign is support and/or put out by the university itself knowing that most of us do respect this university in its causes. They connect to us on a pathos level by color coating the "UT" and "make orange" according to the school colors, something very significant to most UT students and fans. They also connect to us on an ethos level by using a simple slogan and symbols. In essence, this sign is rhetorically effective because for one; it is on more than one lamp post around and throughout campus and for two; it uses ethos and pathos effectively by the above mentioned methods. So they have us with repetition of sight, our emotions and our views on character.

video analysis
observation-video 1
first shot of butter in frying pan that man says is drugs
egg then dropped onto butter saying that the egg is your brain
egg starts frying and man says that it is your brain on drugs
Last thing the man says is, "Any questions?" and then the organization name pops up.
Drugs fry your brain, therefore turning your brain into something delicious like a fried egg......NO KIDS, drugs kill your brain. The audience for this video would be those who are using drugs or thinking about using drugs. The pointed question at the end may be inviting certain audience members to seek help since the organization name pops up right after.
Observation-Video 2
young woman is in the video
the actual frying pan is the drug this time
the egg is your brain
various things in the house represent things in your life
various things in the house get smashed by the frying pan
Drugs mess up everything. They destroy your brain, your family, your body, your friends, and your self esteem. The woman raising her voice is to put emphasis on all these things. The video is directed more towards a younger audience because the woman in the video is young.
The two videos have the same message....Don't do drugs. However, the audiences the two videos are directed at are slightly different. The first video seems to be pointed at anyone who is thinking about using or is using drugs. The second seems to be pointed at a younger audience by using a younger woman in their video who is also a well known actor in a teenage movie. The screaming taps into the viewer's emotional awareness that drugs are bad for everyone.
